Teuts Boxster Page

Work in progress, so please excuse any errors on this page. I drove a black/savannah beige Boxster from 1997 to 07/2000 when I ordered my new one. It arrived on 28th September 2000. The following pictures illustrate some differences I noticed between the 97 and 2001 model as I drove both. Remember when browsing those pics that this is the GERMAN version of the Boxster, assembled in Zuffenhausen/Stuttgart at their main plant while my new one was assembled in Finnland. US versions might vary.

If you have any questions about both of my Boxster experiences or want detail pics of anything please email me at Teut@Wingssimulations.com

50 Years Porsche Tradition?

I knew my grandma posed for photographs in her younger times, but I didnt know she did it for Porsche! The following pictures were taken for the Porsche Calendar 1951 and for the german magazine Auto Motor Sport. Maybe someone has old editions of this one and can scan me the pages? Anyone with old Porsche Calendars to confirm they appeared there?

As usual click for larger images. My Grand Ma is 86 and still a very active woman. Those pictures are taken exactly 50 years apart!

Of course I had to take images from her today with my little fun car :)

My first day

Finally, October 9th I got my new Boxster. God was nice and put the sun out in those rainy autumn days here in Germany. This Boxster is the 396th 2001 series built on Porsches plant in Finland. I was kind a surprised to get a Finnish built living in Germany. Enjoy the pictures!

Blue sky, autumn foliage, and my Meridian 2001 Boxster. I realized the color changes a lot depending on sunlight. If you compare these image to the ones below (delivery day was cloudy) you'll notice that the slight red in the silver is more noticeable when the sky is cloudy. A nice side effect, I love this color.

Same location, different angle.

Side view. The wheels are the standard stock 16" wheels you get with the 2.7 Boxster. I will use these for the winter tires and get 17" for the next summer. Recent testing for winter tires put the Pirelly Snowsport 240, the Dunlop or the Continental in the top 3 performers.

Different location near my office, this time with roof down. Look below for even more new details I noticed compared to my earlier 1997 Boxster.

Here it is, first day delivered on 28th September 2000, still having the protective gear on it (the white plastic sheets and roof protection).

Sideview, here you see the side protection they fix for transport. The Boxster behind mine is Arctic Silver, mine is Meridian Silver. For a closer look to compare colors click on next picture below. Note that the wheels are the stock 16" wheels for the 2.7. I will mount winter tires for the next few months and will get 17" for the summer. Porsche expanded their 17" and 18" types btw.

Closer look at Meridian Silver. The car behind mine is Arctic Silver. As soon as I get my car without the protective gear I will post more pictures so you can better decide wether or not you like Meridian. I love it :)

Some New Details of the 2001 Boxster (NEW details below)

The new dash of the Boxster 2001 line, identical with the 911 Turbo. Some like them, some hate them. I tend to ignore them as I watch the streets at high speed :). I liked the older one better, they were classic design, the lines were much better fitting the overall oval look of everything Boxster.

Slightly larger look for those who need details....

The RPM meter close to see the new Board Computer display

Some new plastic covers in the front trunk. Whats up with those? Whats underneath? I need to ask Skyler....his answer: The Hydraulics of the PSM are underneath, thanx for all the emails about this!

Inside of my Boxster. I ordered with Savannah Beige leather package. Note that we in Germany got slightly different ordering options. Take a look at the new gear shift knob, which was much simpler on the 97 model. I think they introduced that on the 99 model. Also the 3-spike steering wheel is now default on the 2001 model (much nicer grip than the old one)

New doorknobs, now aluminum look by default. Old ones were black plastic. I like that I no longer need to order extra kits for this. The new gear shift knob has the same look which is quite nice.

New key with remote (you get that only when ordering the Alarm System). You can now open both front and back trunks via 2 separate buttons on the key. VERY handy.

The 2001 model has new buttons to open the trunks as well. They now are electric, no longer manual as the older ones. Advantage: no "clunk" sound when you open them, disadvantage: low batteries means no trunk to open :p

For those with 1997 Boxsters you will notice the difference of the roof interior: Standard on the Boxster S and now default on the 2.7 Boxster as well.

Well, my wife would like those, but lights on the mirrors of the sun flaps? Thats me in that mirror with my Sony PC100E camera making those pics.

A very odd detail I noticed: In between the doorhandle is a small light (diode) which should illuminate the area for nighttime. I will check this when its dark how well it performs.

Another new area I never seen on my 97 Boxster: The inner room lights are different. With the old Boxster you had to push the light because it functioned as a switch as well. The new one has a separate switch (right side) while the left side has the same small diode light like the door (see above).

About Wheels, Phones and Morons

Ok, winter is over, really, here in germany temperatures are VERY nice, so I got my 17" wheels finally. Here is a preview picture, so you can compare the difference with the picture above.

Another view with a different angle, to compare with the similar picture from above.

I installed the cellular phone kit for my Siemens SL45 phone. Its a very good phone featuring a MP3 player, digital voice recorder and more (see www.siemens.com). I didnt have the phone prep kit ordered, so they had to connect the microphone manually and the kit to the radio. All worked fine. The antenna is unusually hidden UNDER the console. This seems to work as the Boxster has no metal roof.

Well, I was on a business trip to Los Angeles (E3) and on my return I noticed my rear bumper was scratched on both sides. Duh. Luckily I found a note under my wipers from the police that the lady who did it reported to the police. Nice, fair, but still....she must be a bad driver to hit me where I parked and its a pain as I have to give my car to the dealer for 2 days with that great weather outside. Can I file a charge for "missed enjoyment"?
